Crow’s Feet/Frown Lines/Forehead Furrows

  • Information

Crow’s feet are the fine lines that form around the eyes. The main cause of Crow’s Feet is a decrease of the amounts of collagen and elastin in the skin. These proteins are responsible for our skin’s elasticity, but production drops as we age, by sun exposure, but smoking can contribute to their formation.

Frown lines are the result of gathering or knitting the tissue between the eyebrows into a fold. They are caused by the repeated action of underlying muscles associated with facial expression. Years of squinting and frowning tend to leave deep wrinkles in the skin between the eyebrows and on the bridge of the nose, across the forehead and at the corners of the eyes.

Why treat ?
Physical, emotional and social reasons for treating these lines include:

  • Improved appearance
  • Enhanced self-esteem

There are two main types of lines :
Dynamic lines. These are produced by the actions of underlying muscles. Frowning, smiling and squinting activate them.
Static facial lines These are present at all times, even during sleep. These lines are actual lines present on the skin resulting from a long history of squinting, frowning and sun damage.
Treatment Options
At our Centre we Offer following treatment :

  • Anti-Wrinkle Injectables – we use Botox®
  • Dermal Fillers
  • Chemical peels
  • Anti-Wrinkle Injectables – Botox®

Wrinkle-relaxing injections of botulinum toxin with the brand names of Botox (preferred treatment we use) – are used to treat crow’s feet as well as wrinkles and frown lines.

A minute amount of the neuromodulator is injected directly into the underlying muscle, causing it to relax and gradually smooth out the appearance of the overlying skin. The effects typically last three-four months.

Why choose Botox ®
Neuromodulators (Botox) are usually the preferred treatment if the crow’s feet are dynamic in nature since they relax the underlying muscle. Other benefits of neuromodulators:

  • Non-invasive; does not require surgery.
  • Can be quickly performed at our centre.
  • Virtually no recovery time.

Possible risks
As with any treatment, there are risks associated with it, though they are minimized in the hands of our qualified experienced doctor . These include:

  • Soreness
  • Mild bruising
  • Temporary weakness of surrounding muscles

What to expect after the procedure

  • Virtually no recovery time is required after neuromodulator injections.
  • Patients should take care not to rub treated areas, which could cause it to migrate to another area.

DERMAL FILLERS
At our centre, we use a solution called Juvéderm®/ Restylane/Perlane, which contains Hyaluronic Acid to replace the naturally existing substance in your skin that repairs damaged tissue. The dermal fillers used for deeper, more established Crow’s Feet and lines, Dermal Fillers may be considered. With near immediate results (they develop from 48 hours following treatment) lasting up to 12 months, treatment involves injecting a medically developed solution under the skin with a fine needle to plump and fill lines and grooves.
