  • Information

Excessive hair growth occurs naturally in some individuals. The condition also can be caused by hormonal imbalance, metabolic problems, genetic disposition or as a side effect of some medicines. Excess hair is a common condition that can occur in both men and women. Sometimes excess hair growth has no identifiable cause; this tends to be more common in skin types from a Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and South Asian background.

In women, excess hair is often referred to as hirsutism, hair that is thick and dark . Hirsutism occurs when females produce an excess of male sex hormones called androgens, or are more sensitive to these hormones. When there is a hormonal imbalance of them, excess hair can occur. This fluctuation of hormone levels and symptoms such as excess hair can also be triggered by a medical condition, called Polycystic Ovary Syndrome PCOS.

Laser Hair removal

At our centre we offer the gold standard Laser Hair Removal. A device applies flashes of light to the skin in the treatment area with a cooling air applied. Hair removal lasers beam highly concentrated light specifically into hair follicles, where it is absorbed by the pigment in the follicle, destroying the hair.  Patients may feel a tingling or stinging sensation, but discomfort is generally minimal.

The treatment is suitable for both the face and body, and is designed to treat all skin types and tones. The treatment works particularly well on coarse, dark hair. The treatment is FDA approved to give a long term hair reduction of up to 80-90 per cent. You can expect to see the best results with a course of treatments, after which the hair will have been reduced dramatically and the skin left silky-smooth. Treatments can last anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the treatment area.  At our centre we uses most advanced, effective lasers suitable for all skin type.

Ingrown hairs are hairs that have curled around and grown back into your skin instead of rising up from it.  Sometimes, dead skin can clog up a hair follicle. That forces the hair inside it to grow sideways under the skin, rather than upward and outward. This causes the skin to inflame and a small pink or tan bump to form. A small part of the underlying hair can usually be seen under the bump.

Ingrown hairs can be itchy and uncomfortable, especially if you’ve got a lot of them. You may notice pus inside the bumps. Anyone can suffer with ingrowing hairs, however those with curly or coarse hair tend to be more prone. In growing hairs most often occur in areas where the hair has been shaved or waxed, particularly in the bikini line for women and in the beard and neck for men. Although generally harmless, ingrowing hairs can be painful, especially when infected
